Most people may know Lefkada as the emerald island of the Ionian Sea, with its exotic beaches and endless blue of dreamy summer holidays, but this unique island has so much more to offer. So come with us to explore the lush green hinterland, the picturesque villages, taste the local cuisine and enjoy the Lefkadian hospitality. These and much more await you on the island of Lefkada this Easter. Experience unique moments and make unforgettable memories by strolling through the alleys of the old town, the central square of Agios Spyridon, Marka Square, and the western canal of the Poulios district.

Schedule:

Day 1: Kavala Departure -Thessaloniki – Lefkada – City tour – Attendance at the Epitaph.

Gathering early in the morning and departure for Lefkada with intermediate stops for coffee. Arrival in Lefkada. The homonymous, quiet, Ionian town is the capital and main port of the island. It stretches along the beach, with a strong picturesque character derived from the colourful houses with tiled roofs, the beautiful squares, the narrow streets and the coastal pedestrian walkway. First acquaintance with the city. The places we will visit include the Bosketo Park, with the busts of great personalities of Lefkada, as well as the house where the national poet of Japan C. Koizumi (Lefkadios Hearn), while you will be impressed by the Castle of Agia Maura*, built in 1300 by John Orsini of Sicily, on the side of the artificial channel, on an island in the lagoon, which is also the largest wetland on the island, and which has been added to in later years by the Venetians and Turks. You can also admire its ecclesiastical monuments, such as the church of Agios Spyridon (late 17th century) in the centre of the town and the churches of Agios Nikolaos (1687), Christ Pantokrator (1684), Agios Minas (1707), the church of Agioi Anargyroi and the church of the Entrance of the Virgin Mary. Transfer to our hotel and check in to our rooms. Afterwards we will attend the epitaph service in the central square of the city. Overnight stay.

Day 2: Cruise Porto Katsiki – Fiskardo (Kefalonia) – Ithaca – Scorpios – Ressurection.

Breakfast at our hotel and departure for the point of the town of Lefkada, where in the morning the Philharmonic Orchestra comes out to the market, playing marches and giving the signal to the housewives to “throw the piece”, a fragile clay vase, which will make a big bang when it falls to break the mourning of Holy Week or – according to others – to kill Judas who betrayed Jesus. We depart for Nidri. For today we suggest an optional cruise. Our first visit to the most beautiful sandy beach of the Ionian Sea, the enchanting Porto Katsiki, We continue to Fiskardo (Kefalonia) – the largest island of the Ionian Sea with its many variations and diverse natural beauties. Extensive sandy beaches, picturesque bays with turquoise waters, impressive caves and rare geological formations enchant the visitor. The jewel of the island is the only village that remained untouched by the great earthquakes of 1953, Fiskardo. Stay for an optional meal and walk. Our next stop is Ithaca – home of the Homeric hero Odysseus, legend, history and reference point of spiritual people. The hospitable and romantic Ithaca is an ideal place for peaceful holidays, interesting tours and explorations. Combining harmoniously mountain and sea with wonderful bays and charming beaches, picturesque paths and traditional settlements. Stay and free time. Our next stop is Meganissi, where the cave is located, where in 1940 during the Second World War, Iatridis commander of the legendary submarine Papanikolis used as a hideout. And finally the 3 islands of Onassis (Scorpios, Sparta and Kastri. Back to our hotel. Free time for relaxation and rest. Before midnight we will attend the resurrection service.

Day 3: Lefkada – Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni – Agios Nikitas.

Chronia Polla…!!!!! Breakfast and departure for a pilgrimage to the patron saint of the island Kyra Faneromeni. We will visit the western side of the island, a route that reveals the paleontological “cosmogony” of western Lefkada, the prehistory of the terrible precipitations that formed the steep cliffs, the bottomless deep blue vastness of the Ionian Sea and the most beautiful and famous all over the world beaches of the island. On our way we will stop at the village of Agios Nikitas, which has been characterized as a traditional settlement. The sea that stretches out in front of it has crystal clarity overlooking the beautiful village. A village that has sea, food, entertainment. After a short stop for coffee and rest we continue our walk until we reach the village of Exanthia. Its houses are amphitheatrically built and it is believed that the location was inhabited since the Byzantine Era. We will make a stop to climb up to the old church of Agios Stefanos with its interesting external bell tower and courtyard that offers a wonderful view to every visitor. The church has been damaged by earthquakes and has been rebuilt. On the iconostasis there is the date 1850. We will return to the country for our traditional lunch and then rest. Free time in the afternoon for our last walks around the island.

Day 4: Lefkada – Parga – Thessaloniki – Kavala.

Breakfast at our hotel and departure for Parga. Passing through Nikopolis, we reach the picturesque coastal town with its rare natural beauties. Built on the slopes of a rocky hill, with the Venetian castle of 1572, a walk through this small town is something that is really worth doing. Free time at our disposal for a tour of the castle and food, and fascinated by Parga, we make our way back. Early afternoon departure for Thessaloniki and arrival in the evening in our city.
