We will start from the “Cave of the Apocalypse” where St. John the Theologian wrote the “Apocalypse” when he arrived in 95 as an exile of the Roman Emperor Domitian. The Patmiada School, located behind the monastery, was founded in 1713, functioned as a church school and was a centre for enslaved Greeks. We will continue on to the southwestern side of the country to the Holy Monastery of the Annunciation of the Mother of Love, built by Hieromonk Nikiforos Kritas in 1613. The monastery’s collection of icons dates from the 15th to the 17th century. Among the most recent icons of the monastery are some of those created by the late Sister Olympiada, who studied alongside the famous hagiographer Fotis Kontoglou. Afterwards we will visit the capital of the island, Chora, with the whitewashed houses, the small churches, the narrow streets, the small pedestrian streets and the squares overlooking the Aegean Sea that embrace the castle’s enclosure. At the top of the island rises the majestic monastery of Agios Ioannis the Theologian which is under the Patriarchate of Constantinople. The monastery was founded in 1607 by the Patmian monk Parthenios Pagostas. Visit to the monastery of Zoodochos Pigi. Free afternoon.
